Governance of Organizations – interview

Can you please introduce yourself and tell us where you are from?

My name is Houfani Mohamed Anis, and I’m from Algeria. I’m currently a student in the Governance of Organizations program at Collegium Polonicum in Słubice.

Why Study Governance

“Governance plays a crucial role in how organizations and societies function. I was drawn to this field because it combines leadership, strategic thinking, and ethics - all areas I’m passionate about.”

What made you choose the Governance of Organizations program?

The interdisciplinary approach of the program really stood out to me. I liked that it blends elements of political science, management, and law. Plus, the opportunity to study in an international environment at Collegium Polonicum was a big advantage.

What was the most surprising or unexpected thing you have experienced here so far?

I was surprised by how welcoming and helpful everyone has been - both the staff and the students. I didn’t expect to feel so at home in a new country so quickly.

Why do you think governance is an important field to study in today’s world?

Governance is essential in addressing global challenges - from corporate accountability to climate policy. Understanding how organizations are governed helps us make a positive impact, whether in the public or private sector.

The Student Experience

What was your first impression when you started your studies back in October?

It was a mix of excitement and nervousness, but I was quickly reassured by how well-organized and supportive the university was. The international atmosphere was really energizing too.

What’s your favourite memory so far related to moving to Poland and starting your studies in the Collegium Polonicum?

My favorite memory is probably the first time I explored both Słubice and Frankfurt (Oder). It was amazing to see how two cities in two different countries are so closely connected - it made me feel like I was part of something truly international.

Can you tell us which class was your favourite so far and why?

One of my favorite classes was Public Law Frameworks because it challenged my way of thinking and encouraged a lot of discussion. The professor was also very engaging and made complex topics easier to grasp.

What are you most looking forward to as you continue to study?

I’m really looking forward to diving deeper into research and perhaps working on real-world case studies. I’m also excited about potential internship opportunities and collaborating with fellow students.

Career Prospects

How do you think studying GOO will help you on the job market?

This program gives you a strong foundation in organizational theory and practical governance issues, which are valuable in many career paths—whether it’s NGOs, government institutions, or corporate roles.

What’s your dream job after this program?

I’d love to work in an international organization where I can contribute to creating better governance policies and making a difference in how institutions operate.

Why Should Someone Choose this Program

What advice would you give to a student considering studying GOO?

Be open to new ideas and cultures - this program is not just about academics, it’s also about growing as a global citizen. Take full advantage of the resources and networking opportunities.

As international student, would you recommend coming to Poland and choosing Collegium Polonicum for the studies?

Absolutely. The environment is supportive, the cost of living is reasonable, and you get to be part of a unique academic setting that bridges Eastern and Western Europe.
